Customer relationship management (CRM) is a software program that businesses and salespeople use to keep track of others. It is also a term for the actual act of relating to customers and ‘making friends’ with them so that they will continue to bring their business to a particular company. Contact Management Software (CMS) is more important than ever today, because there are so many companies that are growing and that have many customers. In the past, individuals that owned or worked in a business were very good at remembering names and faces because they had few customers and those customers were ‘regulars.’ Now, though, the creation of the Internet has turned the business world global. Because of this, it has also changed the way that customer relationship management (CRM) is addressed.

Today, customer relationship management (CRM) is very dynamic, and there are many programs that are designed to help businesspeople with it. These programs help to keep track of customers, but they do not only store names and addresses. They also store preferences, purchases, and other information. By storing all of this, those that work with customers can not only see whether a customer has been back in the store recently, but they can send out information to customers about upcoming sales and promotions that might interest them. They can also contact customers to find out if they are happy with the products that they purchased in the past. Since it allows for so much interaction, customer relationship management (CRM) has greatly improved the way that businesses work with their customers.
